Parker Hannifin Manufacturing's Birtley factory has been crowned the UK's top manufacturing site at the Best Factory Awards 2011.

The filtration solutions manufacturer was praised for impressive workforce development and consistent achievement of corporate goals.

The site whose filters are used to combat microbes in yoghurt and fight hospital infections has smashed sales targets by over five times original targets, the BFAs heard.

Productivity is up 11% on 2009 and customer service levels stand at nearly 95%.

Success has been credited to a 'Win strategy' that targets employees on three key goals: customer service, financial performance and profitable growth.

Max Gosney, WM Editor said: "Parker Hannifin Manufacturing's Birtley site is a shining example of outstanding manufacturing best practice. The plant has reaped the rewards of uniting its people behind a considered corporate strategy. Congratulations to all the team on this outstanding achievement."

The Parker Hannifin Manufacturing team picked up the prize at a packed BFA Awards ceremony in London this afternoon.
